Hoopla

After careful consideration, St. Albert Public Library joins other libraries and library systems across North America in discontinuing the hoopla streaming service. We are proud to be one of the first public library adopters of the service and now one of the last to discontinue it. The last day of hoopla service will be April 30, 2025

FAQ

With the costs and demand of digital content continuing to rise, we at SAPL, need to make some hard decisions to ensure a more cost-effective approach to managing our digital resources. Hoopla’s pay per use pricing model is expensive and costs are difficult to predict from month to month, making it very hard to budget for.
If you need a list of the titles you’ve checked out through hoopla or you have a favorites list you would like to save, you will need to either write down the titles or take a screenshot. To find your borrowing history or favorites on the hoopla app; select “My hoopla” and select either Borrowed or Favorites. You will need to do this before April 30, 2025. After that time, you will not be able to access this information.
Don’t worry, we have you covered! Libby by Overdrive is our other eBook, eAudiobook, eComic and eMagazines platform, which already has a ton of great content waiting to be discovered.
    Here are some Libby highlights:
  • There is no monthly limit
  • You can check out 10 items at a time.
  • Our collection is curated by our librarians, so you know we have quality content.
  • We add new titles to Libby every week.
  • The app is very easy to use.
  • Libby also has all your favorite magazines, just tap to subscribe and receive new issues automatically!
  • We also have comics and graphic novels, which are selected by our librarians just for you.
  • For specific titles, you can use our Suggest an Item form from our website!
  • Or you can use the ‘Notify Me' tag to suggest items in Libby that are not already in our collection and you will be notified when the title is added.
  • By discontinuing hoopla, we can use the funds to add additional titles to Libby, which will reduce wait times.
  • Check out the “Available Now” section on the Libby app and website for instantly available titles.
Yes! We’d like to introduce you to Kanopy. Stream over 30,000 films like the Criterion Collection, The Great Courses, documentaries, indie films, and more! Browse Kanopy Kids for streaming videos for children that educate and entertain! Check it out!
Unfortunately, we do not currently have another music streaming provider in our collection of digital content. We will continue to investigate other options for this format.
