National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

We encourage everyone to continue to acknowledge the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation by learning the history of residential schools, and honouring those who suffered and those who survived. Some ideas on how to do so include:

  1. Read up on residential schools. The Library's Orange Shirt Day booklist is a good starting point

  2. Visit the St. Albert Healing Garden / Kâkesimokamik, located right across the river from the Downtown Library (Google Maps).

  3. Take the Payhonin Pledge of Reconciliation.

  4. Take the U of A's Indigenous Canada online course and attend the Library's Learning Circle to discuss what you've learned.

  5. Wear orange! The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is also Orange Shirt Day.

  6. Watch and learn from 50 years of Indigenous filmmaking at the National Film Board of Canada.

  7. Take part in virtual programming at the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation.

  8. Check out the events and stories from the University of Alberta.
