Help you children see shapes all around them by talking about them and pointing them out. They don't even have to be standard shapes like circles, triangles and squares. Even babies can see shapes and light/dark patterns long before they know what they are called. Awareness of shapes builds a foundation for the math concepts children will need to learn later in school.

For older children, read It Looked Like Spilt Milk by Carles Shaw. Ask your child to tell you what they think the shapes are. Allow your child some time to tell you what they see.
