Suggest Items for Your Library

Want to suggest an item for purchase? Please check out the FAQs for more information.

We will try our best! You will need a St. Albert Public Library card to make a suggestion. Don't have a card yet? Visit our Get a Library Card page. Please check our catalogue before you make your suggestion to see if we already own the item. The item must have a Canadian release date. All suggestions are reviewed individually by Library staff. Purchases are informed by our Materials Selection Policy, funding, availability. Please remember that when requesting eBooks and eAudiobooks titles that they must be originally published in the last five years.
If your suggestion was not purchased, we will check our Interlibrary Loan system to see if we can find it at another library in Alberta. Library staff will contact you directly if this is an option for you. If a library outside of St. Albert has this item available and you want to drive there, you can use your ME Library card to pick it up in person.
From up to 60 days from the date of your initial request, you will have received a notification that a hold has been placed on the suggested item. If it has been over 60 days from the date of your initial request and you have not received a hold notification, we did not purchase this item. Please note that we are unable to place holds on any suggested digital titles (i.e. eBooks, eAudiobooks, etc.). If it has been over 60 days from the date of your initial request and you do not see the suggested digital item in our catalogue, we did not purchase this digital item.
You can request a maximum of five suggestions per month, sixty per year. Please submit separate suggestions for different formats.
Please search back through your email to retrieve the email you originally received from SAPL confirming your suggestion was received. Check the calendar and see if it has been more than 60 days. If it hasn’t, hang tight - we might still buy it. If we do, it will appear as a hold on your account, except for digital titles which we cannot place on hold for you. If it has been more than 60 days since your submission, we were unable to fulfil your item suggestion.
Fill in our Contact Us form. Include independent reviews, media coverage of your book/CD/DVD, and any other information that will help us make a decision. We do not accept sample copies of items at library service desks. Purchases are informed by our Materials Suggestion Policy.
